Friends, you should all know by now that I will be pursuing a career in journalism. I want to sharpen my writing skills (and perhaps attract readers) with an opinion blog; my question to those few of you who read this one is - what would you be interested in reading? I'm looking for a niche to write in, not necessarily political, though I suppose that'd be a good diving board for my field, and I'm just curious. I'd appreciate your opinion.
(Also, would any of you CS geeks be willing to help me set up a domain and a website? Or let me use your Dreamweaver? :D)

And I would like to read about whatever it is that makes you write with most fervor, be it politics, philosophy, fiction, or something else. The best writing is the most passionate writing.
I know, how very helpful of me, but I can't bring myself to even think to request topics from someone. It rarely goes well.
I've been looking for good coverage of black markets. The particular markets I'm interested in are those pertaining to black market information, but there's little reason to confine yourself to just these. There's not a lot of information on some of these types of things and I've known plenty of folks who have written full out papers just looking at a bit of the behavior of these things.
Depending on how you do it, this can provide plenty of opportunities for investigative journalism... though you don't even have to do that yourself if you'd prefer to just aggregate.
As for website stuff, I'd be happy to help. *Especially* if you were pursuing this idea. Hell, I'd be happy to help from a technical side with your research too. Might not hurt to have a security guy around if you plan to go poking the underworld online...
Not entirely joking about that last bit. There's some nasty shit out there if you start poking at particular corners of the Internet.
And yes, I realize that my idea for topics happens to correspond very heavily with my own interests and it's probably not your thing. :)

Actually, it does sound interesting, but I don't think I could see myself writing about and researching black markets for any extended period of time. I probably could get an article or two out of it, though :D
In relation to investigative journalism, we've found that (in most places) it's not actually against the law to lie (hooray for watching The Corperation). o.O
And like what Nik said, write about what you like to talk about. In my case that would be food. XD For you, maybe food, maybe something different.
...but I'd read a food one. XD But that's just cause it's me. I think this trip has made me even more obsessed with food than before.
