I was digging through some old blogs, photo albums, and ancient online profiles I've got saved on half a billion different people-finder sites (I can't even remember some of the sites I've joined!), and I found a picture of me from the 11th grade - I was all of 16 years old.

Sweet Jesus, I look young! But at this point in my life, I'd been handling more responsibility than people 10 years my senior (and older!) have ever dreamed of. At this point, I was the Lieutenant Governor of the Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S District's Diamond Division. Sound fancy? The work was time-consuming and hefty; I was responsible for overseeing the KIWIN'S clubs at 6 different schools. In fact, when I took the helm, there were only 5, but within the first quarter of my holding the position, the Diamond Division created a new club for the first time in quite a while at Palos Verdes. 6 club presidents and their board members answered to me; in my tiny hands rested the well-being of around 300 KIWIN'S members.
Good gravy. I never really stopped to think about it during the time, but shit - that was a lot of responsibility for a 16 year-old. No wonder I never dated in high school - no time!
Anyway, that photo was taken at South Torrance High School's banquet. Every year, a KIWIN'S club holds a banquet in honor of the club, its members, and the hard work they put into their year of service (KIWIN'S is a sister to Key Club, and is the high school equivalent of Circle K - it's a community service organization - non-profit). I think I was invited to everyone's banquets - I doubt they would have wanted to offend me by NOT inviting me - and I managed to get to South's. This picture was taken by... Peter - yes, I think that was his name - who was a senior, and held some board position or another.
Man. That was an epic year. Good times, good experiences, and good lessons learned.
